TEXAS BAR FOUNDATION GIVES TOM HENSON STATEWIDE RECOGNITION
Tom Henson of Tyler has been selected as one of five 2019 recipients of the Texas Bar Foundation’s Outstanding 50 Year Lawyer Award. The award recognizes attorneys whose practice has spanned 50 years or more and who adhere to the highest principles and traditions of the legal profession and service to the public.
After graduating from the University of Texas School of Law in 1963 Tom Henson began practicing law in Dalhart, Texas, where he was raised. After only five months of practice, Mr. Henson was called to the U.S. Air Force where he served as Captain in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. In 1967, Mr. Henson joined Ramey & Flock, P.C., where he practiced for 50 years, becoming Of Counsel in 2017. During his distinguished career as a courtroom lawyer, Mr. Henson has tried complex civil cases in state and federal courts throughout East Texas. Mr. Henson’s practice has included disputes and lawsuits involving product liability, trucking accidents, commercial issues, breach of contract, breach of warranty, business torts, oil and gas issues, and serving as local counsel in numerous patent cases. He also has had an active attorney-mediator practice.
Mr. Henson has been a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers since 1989, having served on its State Committee for 5 years. He is a Charter Member of the East Texas Chapter of ABOTA. He served as President of the Smith County Bar Association, of the UT Law School Alumni Association and of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel. In 2012, Mr. Henson was the recipient of the Justinian Award given by the Smith County Bar Association.
The Bar Foundation commissioned an oral history to recognize and preserve the accomplishments of Mr. Henson’s legal career. Additionally, he will be publicly recognized at the Texas Bar Foundation Annual Dinner held on June 14, 2019 at the JW Marriott in Austin.
